How Collective Consciousness Is Helping Business Do The Right Thing

As people were forced to rethink their businesses they began to focus on the relational, and the purposeful. There was a big shift in leadership approach, as they had to look beyond the operational and start making decisions solely based on the strategic.

With the easing of lockdown, it would be easy to let go of this leadership approach and jump straight back into the purely transactional. Looking at current cashflow and availability of financial support, I understand the thinking "I must get back to selling".

But let me share with you my experiences over the past 12 weeks. I only incorporated my business in January, and shortly after joined Ahead Business Consulting, and yet I have had some of the most rich, best business-related conversations I have ever had. I have connected with more like-minded people than I would normally have crossed paths with, and I have talked with a more international and intentional audience, than I would ever have had the opportunity to access, in pre-covid circumstances. And it's because leaders made the collectively conscious decision to come together and rethink how they can do business better; to share beliefs, ideas, and attitudes which operated as a unifying force within the business community. There was a collective and conscious effort to do things right, as well as do the right thing.

As a result, I have had the opportunity to work with progressive leaders to set and implement effective strategies, so they can stay relevant in their industry, and allow them to grasp and develop new opportunities. I have had the opportunity to support their teams moving to remote working and helped to build resilience and drive productivity as the concept of "work from anywhere" slowly becomes a key factor to creating successful organisations.

Recovery from lockdown will be gradual and we still have challenges ahead. The business decisions we make now will dictate how we do business as we emerge from, and on the other side of lockdown; so now is not the time to stop being unified, or human. Nor is time to let go of those Strategic priorities you identified at the start of this more conscious journey. By continuing to work hard at the relationships, the transactions will follow. By maintaining your purpose, you will progress, and you will create a sustainable business that will remain relevant to your customers. But it will be one that will be judged on great values and not just on price.
